Finesse Hair Grafting
Medical experts note that in most cases, cosmetic surgery represents a quantum leap in behavior for the individual male. While women have become familiar and comfortable with changes in their appearance, men have never had a similar experience.

Hair loss for a man or woman is a very sensitive issue, and it affects millions of people. The majority of hair loss is genetic, but stress, poor nutrition, and illness can cause it as well. Hair replacement surgery provides a permanent solution to hair loss. Patients of the Hair Transplant Center of Naples have had life changing improvements in self-confidence and self-esteem after hair restoration.

The principle of hair transplantation is simple. Transplanted hair follicles (roots moved from their original location on the body to another area) should behave as they did in their original site. In typical baldness, for example, a horseshoe-shaped fringe of hair persists. Follicles removed from this hairy fringe to a bald area on the same patient's scalp should take root and grow. Since 1958, hair growth from such transplants has been observed to grow a life-time.They must be placed at the appropriate angle and location to blend harmoniously with any native hairs. Remember, the key to achieving an undetectable result is properly positioning the hairline for one's current age, and having the foresight to anticipate future native hair loss and planning for this accordingly.

There are two main techniques used our physicians to reduce typical pattern baldness: follicular unit grafting (transplanted microscopic hair follicles) and scalp reduction (which reduces the size of the balded area).

Follicular unit micrografting involves taking hairs from the back of the head which are not susceptible to balding, and transplanting those to the needed areas along the hairline and top of the head. Each follicular unit graft contains one to four hairs, with its supporting elements. Usually the one-hair grafts are used in several rows along the frontal hairline in an irregular fashion, followed by two-, three-, and four-hair follicular unit micrografts behind this. The microscopic detail and finesse with which these micrografts are harvested and transplanted provides the most natural results.

Scalp reduction is used to reduce large areas of baldness while hair grafts are used to fill in and refine the hairline. In some cases, a combination of scalp reduction sessions and hair graft sessions may be necessary. Since the degree of baldness is different for all persons, only individual consultation can provide the most appropriate plan for hair replacement.

At The Aesthetic Surgery Center, hair replacement surgery is an art form. Drs. Agarwal and Maloney are facial plastic surgeons trained in the art of microsurgery. Their attention to detail and their use of micro-follicular unit grafting allows for natural, yet virtually undetectable results.

Hair Transplantion to the Eyebrows
Many women lose their eyebrow hair, especially in the outer half, as they age. The most common reasons for this include aggressive plucking, age, laser hair removal, and trauma. The majority of women pencil in their eyebrows with make-up or they have permanent make-up (or micropigmentation) done to treat this. Many patients who are unhappy with these procedures because their eyebrows look fake and artificial, in the majority of cases. Another problem is that permanent make-up fades over months to years, so it does not look like natural hair color.

Dr. Agarwal is now performing a procedure called hair transplantation to the eyebrows. The procedure has been described before, but its popularity waned because of the technique that was originally used. We are now able to use microscopes to cut these fine grafts, and this really has resulted in far more natural results.

The procedure is performed as follows: A strip of hair-bearing skin from the back of the head is removed and the donor area is closed with sutures. This strip is then sectioned under a microscope into individual single hair grafts. Microscopic recipient incisions are then made in the area of missing eyebrow hair at the appropriate angulation and direction. The individual single hair grafts are then meticulously inserted into these recipient openings. The process takes about 3 to 4 hours, but the patient is awake in the office. Some of the transplanted hairs start to grow immediately, but full growth is seen after about 4 months.

This is by far the most natural and long lasting way to restore eyebrows. Even patients who may have had a traumatic laceration with accompanying loss of eyebrow hair, etc.. could benefit. The hairs that are transplanted last for the rest of your life and all that is required is trimming their length periodically. Please call 239-594-9100 to find out more.
